I’m super excited to announce that I have been selected as a Summer Fellow with Plympton: A Literary Studio for their Writing Downtown writing residency in Las Vegas NV next to The Writer’s Block LV.
Thank you to PEN America for providing this opportunity to former Emerging Voices for the August residency.
I will be spending 2 weeks in a beautiful loft in downtown Vegas working on my second book. Grateful for this opportunity and looking forward to the dedicated time to write!
I am honored to have two of my poems included and recorded for the wonderful audiobook "The Wild Edge of the Heart: Women Poets Raise Their Voices."
Published, produced, and narrated by Susan Lambert, co-produced by Walker Vreeland, art directed/designed by Lee Wolfort, with original music composed by Kim Sherman, the audiobook features a foreword by iconic theater artist and writer Anne Bogart.
All proceeds from the sale of the audiobook and e-book will be donated to: The National Institute for Reproductive Health to support the reproductive health of girls and women.
I am happy to be collaborating with the wonderful nonprofit organization LA River Arts through the California Creative Corps program!
Thank you to New Delta Review for nominating my poem “Rain Bomb Anti-Ode” for a 2023 Best of the Net award!
Thanks to Kelsey Bryan-Zwick and The Poetry Lab for featuring my book I’d Rather Be Lightning in their “10 AAPI Poets to Read This Year.”
Nancy is a recipient of the 2023 California Creative Corps grant, a program that pairs artists and non-profits to create public arts programming. She is working with the non-profit DSTL Arts as a mentor in their Poet/Artist Development Program.
Together, Nancy and DSTL Arts will produce a Creative Impact Project on topics of LA Transit and Urban Ecology, offering free workshops to the community and a submissions window that will culminate in two printed anthologies and a public reading.
Artists At Work (AAW) is a workforce resilience program designed to support the rebuilding of healthy communities through artistic civic engagement. Conceived as a public/private partnership, the program will provide a salary, plus full health benefits and professional development resources directly to participating artists; provide financial support to participating local cultural organizations; and connect both to the work of local social impact initiatives in areas such as antiracism, justice reform, sustainability and equitable development, health, economy, homelessness and housing, child welfare, and immigration. It is designed to impact the whole ecosystem of a community.
Artists At Work was an idea inspired by the WPA and founded by THE OFFICE performing arts + film with an initial pilot in Western Massachusetts in 2020. Following that success, AAW was recently awarded $3M by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to expand its program in other parts of the country, starting in Los Angeles County in Fall 2021. More information can be found at artists-at-work.org.
Artists At Work is produced and administered by THE OFFICE performing arts + film with generous support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. THE OFFICE extends special thanks to the FreshGrass Foundation for their partnership and support and thanks to local partner Los Angeles County Department of Arts and Culture and AAW national partners International Storytelling Center, Sundance and Theater of War Productions.
